Grilled cables

On September 11th, a fire ravaged the intermediary cable-car station of the Grand Montets in the Chamonix valley. Actually, one of the most prestigious off-piste skiing destinations which is only accessible by cable-car and, while waiting for the repairs to the infrastructure, only ski-tourers will have access to the Argentière glacier. The day after the fire, Felix Olsson, having not found satisfactory photos on the web, went to visit the scene of the disaster. Here are the pictures he took, accompanied by a short poem relinquishing his sorrow..

Les Grands Montets burned down today

Life does not always turn the way
We expect it to play
“Don’t worry” someone says
“We’ll have fun even if the Midi stays closed”
Rumors about a fatal problem yet unsolved
Autumn has arrived, followed by a second summer
Chamonix is hot again, not unpleasant, just weird
And I realize, reaching the top
That nothing will be the same
I return to my friends in the valley
To show them my photos of a giant ashtray
And suddenly no one can think of anything to say
For a snowy winter, we continue to pray…
Les Grands Montets burned down today
